This will be a day to remember!
Children from YGG Bryn Onnen are helping artist Rubin Eynon to design a plaque for a sculpture that will be sited at the Blaenavon Ironworks as part of a CADW project. The design is based around the “pig iron” that was produced at the site. The iron ingots got their name from the layout of the sand moulds on the foundry floor, which looked a bit like a sow suckling her piglets.
Head for Arts arranged for Bill Lambert from Greenmeadow Community Farm to bring along these two piglets for this memorable (and slightly smelly) drawing session.
The children’s drawings will be incorporated into Rubin’s final design which will be made into a mould ready for molten iron to be poured into it at the Wrexham Eisteddfod at the beginning of August. The plaque will later be attached to Rubin’s sculpture ready to be installed at the Ironworks.

A selection of the photographs taken during the dress rehearsal have been uploaded to the Gallery section of the website – we hope you enjoy browsing through them.
